MSH HISTORY Insurance Since 1906 – Our insurance company has a long and trustworthy heritage. It opened in 1906 built on the principles of dedication to community service, integrity in all dealings, and being “of service” to our personal insurance and commercial insurance clients and the companies we represent. Phillip A. Murray founded the company in 1906. Charles I. Schoen became affiliated with Phil Murray in 1917. In 1923, Walter Morgan joined the firm and the name was changed to Murray, Schoen and Morgan. Mr. Murray and Mr. Schoen were outstanding men in the downstate area of New York and were great role models.

George Homer joined the agency in 1954 and became a principal two years later at which time the name was changed and is known today, as Murray, Schoen and Homer Inc. (MSH) George was an experienced liability insurance manager prior to joining the agency. He worked as a surety bond special agent servicing many counties in the downstate New York area. He brought with him a great deal of technical expertise and contacts in the construction industry.

In 1963, George and his wife Norma purchased the stock of Murray, Schoen & Homer thereby acquiring the agency. Norma began working with him part-time and attending insurance classes to become a licensed insurance broker. George and Norma are strong advocates of involvement in association activities. Both are past presidents of the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Westchester County and the Downstate Agent’s Association. Norma was the first woman to serve as president of this association.

Their children, Rob and Leslie, followed in their footsteps and helped build and grow this successful business enterprise. Rob joined MSH in 1977 after completing a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Psychology from Pace University. He holds ASCR designation, a Property and Casualty Broker’s license, as well as a Life Insurance license. He is former board member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Westchester County, Independent Insurance Agents of Greater Yonkers, and of the Bronxville Rotary Club. His area of expertise is commercial insurance lines. Rob is a seasoned problem solver and works with clients to understand their business so he can provide individualized programs. Leslie joined MSH in 1982 with a degree in Marketing from the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO. She holds ASCR designation, a Property and Casualty Broker’s license, as well as a Life Insurance license. She is a former Board Member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Westchester County, NY, former Board Member of the IIAANY Education Department, and an active church member in her hometown in Dutchess County. Leslie manages the personal lines division and listens to her clients to that ensure their needs are met.

With a full force, Murray, Schoen & Homer grew the business through strategic acquisition. In 1988, we purchased New Rochelle Insurance Agency’s book of business as well as it's building in New Rochelle, NY. Murray, Schoen & Homer then moved from the Bronxville, NY location to our current location at 71 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10801.

Our insurance agency built its reputation based on its long history in the community and our continued success rests equally on our staff and the services we provide. Murray, Schoen & Homer is a leader in the area of agency automation, and has always placed great value on technology and the benefits it can bring to an insurance agency. We were early adopters of technology integration with many insurance carriers.

Our success is based on service, knowledge, and relationships. MSH represents a wide variety of insurance companies to cover our clients’ needs. Several of these companies have been represented by Murray, Schoen & Homer for the better part of the twentieth century. In fact, agency founder Phillip A. Murray represented a carrier in 1883, which is still one of the agency’s markets today. In the over 100 years since our founding, we have grown and expanded our services to encompass the full range of Personal and Commercial Business insurance, an active Financial Services unit, and a Group Employee Benefits division.
